Greetings from California!

As a long-time volunteer and a team leader of MBL, I'm very excited to celebrate this special day with you. In the past 18 years, MBL has done amazing work in connecting different cultures, in helping adoptive families, and in supporting children in need. I've had the honor to work with many volunteers all around the world, and have learned from them about passion, dedication, teamwork and caring. Thank you, MBL, for giving me this precious opportunity!

My 13-year-old daughter, Maya, is also a proud volunteer at MBL. I hope she'll keep up the good work, and grow with MBL.

Touching Home in China; in search of missing girlhoods sends birthday wishes to MBL in celebration of its 18th birthday. The two Chinese adoptees, Maya and Jennie, thank MBL for the extraordinary work and writing of its founder, Xinran, and for all the MBL staff do to support and enrich the lives of Chinese children.

These two American adoptees were found as newborn babies in the rural villages of Xiaxi and Xixiashu and taken to the orphanage in the nearby city of Changzhou. Each girl was adopted in 1997 by an American family, and in the summer of 2013, Maya and Jennie returned to these farming towns to discover what their girlhoods might have been like had they grown up in the village where each was abandoned during China's one-child policy. Girls their age who were raised in these villages showed the American adoptees what life was like for them as only-child daughters growing up in these Jiangsu province villages.

MBL has been crucial to my personal and professional development.

I am awestruck by the generosity and devotion that I have witnessed in the MBL community over the past years.

My name is Zheng Liu, a first-year PhD student majoring in anthropology at FAU.

I am writing to provide my best wishes to MBL!

In the following is my heartful birthday message to MBL.

I joined the MBL in 2014. The eight years of the company of MBL have become the most important stage in my life. The uniqueness of MBL is that everyone helps each other heartfully, especially the founder of the MBL, Xinran Xue.

Xinran has helped me to achieve my dreams. Of her many insightful suggestions, encouraging me to pursue the PhD study of Yijing knowledge and divination practices from an anthropological perspective was the most profound one.

Through our years of discussions, she kindly guided me into a greater understanding of both my academic knowledge and my ambitions, and provided me with strong emotional support. Her warm words consistently encourage me to keep hard working.

The enthusiastic interest of the MBL members has been a perpetual source of encouragement. I can never thank them sufficiently!

It is so fast I have been left with MBL for 5 years, during these years, I missed many key moments with MBLers, while I am seeing more and more fresh faces joined this big family, and nowadays MBL is ever than stronger and flourish. I wish MBL has the best 18th birthday, surrounding love and hopes for following years.

I can’t believe how fast time has gone by and what MBL has been achieved in the last 18 years! It’s amazing and I’m very proud of you!

Still remember early days when we celebrated the single digital birthday with MBL volunteers, the various culture event we hold and the laugh we had. Although I’m not involved in regular events MBL currently hold but my heart is always with MBL and excited for any news from group chat . Hope MBL will continue its goal to build three steady Bridges which will benefit the generations to come.
